Ruan Schoeman (YouTube channel: Aim small Miss small) purchased the HR6-IR subsequent to his recent reviews of this great riflescope. His latest review took place during a Springbuck hunt on a farm outside Graaff-Reinet, South Africa - 7 to 10 July 2022.

Various conditions from cold winter mornings with no wind to a winter afternoon with 12mph wind howling across the open veld.

Testing criteria

Ten aspects pertaining to the riflescope were highlighted for review to determine overall build, quality and value of the offering (each item was rated out of 5 with an overall score out of 10 which subsequently was 10/10):

1. Eye relief & Diopter Adjustment :

  • Easy to set up and once done correctly absolutely perfect. 5/5

2. Magnification adjustment :

  • I found that at 3 magnification the reticle is difficult to see, but with that being said if you are planning on shooting relatively close shots the reticle would be used as an aiming point.

  • The 18 magnification I found that it is exactly what I need to be able to shoot all the way out to 580m without a problem. 5/5

3. Turrets (windage & elevation – click feel, click audibility, turret size) :

  • I enjoy the turrets being so rough and easy turnable.

  • The zero stop or adjustment to zero was a breeze which made zeroing a easy 2 step proses. I had my gloves on one morning during the hunt and could easily turn the turrets. 5/5

4. Tracking (adjustment response upon firing, recoil handling, etc.)

  • UNBELIEVABLE! It simply just works. Spot on every turn and every click. 5/5

5. Parallax / Focus adjustment knob :

  • The fact that you have such a wide range on the parallax is a great bonus, I could use the scope to do dry fire drills at 15yards and still be in focus as well as go out to 600m without an issue. 5/5

6. Reticle (focal plane, size, thickness, holdovers, design) :

  • At 3 magnification the size of the reticle could be a bit small, but it is for shooting close range so cant see why the size will matter that much.

  • The size on 18 magnification is almost the perfect size for shooting at longer ranges. 4/5

7. Glass (ocular lens, objective lens, overall clarity at variable ranges, etc.) :

  • I shoot a Vortex Venom on my 6.5 and for this hunt I had enough opportunity to compare the two with each other and HANDS DOWN the SouthPoint Optics glass quality is winner. Very impressed with the clarity of the glass! 5/5

8. Illuminated reticle adjustment knob :

  • Unfortunately have not used it on this scope, but functionality is 100%. 5/5

9. Overall scope aesthetics and packaging :

  • Love the Matt black color of the scope! It gives it a awesome look! Packaging is very professional and secure for transport. 5/5

10. Price :

  • I Originally looked at the price and thought it might be a bit stiff, but after using the scope and seeing what it has to offer compared to what else is on the market it is very well priced and is cheaper than the competitors. 5/5
