HR5-IR 5-25x56 FFP MR1-MIL reticle

Okker de Klerk, a competitive shooter and 5-time Protea colours achiever in Bisley shooting, reviewed the HR5 at the Kalahari Jagters Vereeniging Shooting Range in Kuruman, South Africa - 1 July 2023.

Conditions on the day: Sunny, 22ºC with light wind

Rifle and modifications used:

6mm SLR, S/S Krieger barrel, Millennium action(single shot left hand) with Warrior silencer

Testing criteria

Ten aspects pertaining to the riflescope were highlighted for review to determine overall build, quality and value of the offering (each item was rated out of 5 with an overall score out of 10 which subsequently was 8/10):

1. Eye relief & Diopter Adjustment : Comfortable & forgiving eye relief, good diopter adjustment. 5/5

2. Magnification Adjustment : Nice big numbers (easy to read without glasses) easy adjustment. 5/5

3. Turrets (windage & elevation – click feel, click audibility, turret size) :Like the big turrets, good positive clicks. 5/5

4. Tracking (adjustment response upon firing, Recoil handling, etc.) : Tracking was excellent! Shot #1 then adjust 1 Mil right, then shot #2 then adjust 1 Mil down, then shot 3 then adjust 1 Mil left, then shot 4 then adjust 1 Mil up, then shot #5. From there you reverse the whole sequence(down, right, up, left) To see if bullet holes touch each other after adjustment. This target was shot at 100m. See target picture…. 5/5

5. Parallax / Focus adjustment knob : Too tight for my liking, difficult to adjust. 2/5

6. Reticle (focal plane, size, thickness, holdovers, design) : I like the reticle, good medium thickness. 5/5

7. Glass (ocular lens, objective lens, overall clarity at variable ranges, etc.) : Good glass for the price range (even at 300 meters). 4/5

8. Illuminated reticle adjustment knob : Very tight adjustment knob, like the illuminated reticle though. 3/5

9. Overall scope aesthetics & Packaging : Looks good & Feels expensive. 5/5

10. Price : At 12K Good value for money [*as priced for limited period during 2023 hunting season]. 5/5
