HR5-IR 5-25x56 FFP MR1-MIL reticle

Walter Van Der Merwe reviewed the HR5 at his store's PCP range (Coastal Air Rifles), George, South Africa - 2022.

Rifle: Air Arms S400 4.5mm

Testing criteria

Ten aspects pertaining to the riflescope were highlighted for review to determine overall build, quality and value of the offering (the overall score out of 10 was subsequently 8.8):

  1. Eye relief & Diopter Adjustment: mounted with good eye relief (5/5)

  2. Magnification adjustment: smooth but a bit stiff (4/5)

  3. Turrets (windage and elevation - click feel, click audibility, turret size): clean and precise (4/5)

  4. Tracking (adjustment response upon firing, recoil handling, etc.): dialing seems 100% but didn't do a box test (5/5)

  5. Parallax / Focus adjustment knob: perfect (5/5)

  6. Reticle (focal plane, size, thickness, holdovers, design): I like the reticle and center dot. I prefer FFP which this is (4/5)

  7. Glass (ocular lens, objective lens, overall clarity at variable ranges, etc.): good and clear (4/5)

  8. Illuminated reticle adjustment knob: a bit stiff but good (4/5)

  9. Overall Scope Aesthetics & Packaging: scope is not too heavy compared to the Element Titan (4/5)

  10. Price: I think the price range is spot on (4/5)

Walter's overall opinion : "Good value for money"
